Northwoods Women in Business group hopes to inspire, motivate more women in the industry

RHINELANDER - For four years, monthly meetings have been packed with women from all across the Northwoods searching for resources, support and motivation. Assembly approves new poaching penalties

MADISON - The Wisconsin Assembly has approved a bill that would dramatically increase penalties for poaching trophy deer. Current state law allows judges to impose a $43 surcharge on top of poaching fines if they choose. The Republican bill would require judges to impose surcharges ranging from $43 to $10,000 according to antler spread and forbid anyone convicted of poaching deer from holding a hunting, fishing or trapping license for three years. Family hopes Wisc. legislators quickly pass cannabis oil bill to help son battling seizures

PRICE COUNTY - Seizures seem almost like a normal, scary routine for Krista Blomberg and her family living near Ogema. But she still remembers the first time she saw her son have a seizure. Teacher faces 8 charges for child porn, Bond set at 75k

WAUSAU - A Wausau area teacher faces eight charges for possessing child pornography, after police used a warrant to search his house on Friday. Michael M. Switalski,50 , made his initial appearance in Marathon County court Monday. He is a teacher and boys soccer coach at Newman Catholic High School in Wausau, and has lived in the city for more than 20 years. Full story: WJFW

Warming prompts closure of Lake Superior ice caves

BAYFIELD - The popular ice caves on Lake Superior near the Apostle Islands are now closed, concluding an unprecedented wave of tourism and exploration. The National Park Service says the caves along Lake Superior were closed just after midnight Monday. The park service says the ice was getting too weak to support foot traffic to the caves, which are accessible by kayak in the summer. Full story: WJFW

Former Oneida County corrections officer claims sex discrimination within Sheriff's Office

Northwoods advocates like Walker administration's push to employ more people with disabilities

RHINELANDER/MOSINEE - A cheese storage and repacking company called Mosinee Cold Storage in northcentral Wisconsin employs fifteen people. Five of them are people with disabilities. Gov. Scott Walker wants that company to serve as example for one of his broader missions in 2014. Full story: WJFW
