Northwoods native "Going Somewhere" in new book about cross-country bicycle journey

CONOVER - Conover native Brian Benson never considered himself a cross-country bicyclist or a book author.

Now, he's both.

We met the Northland Pines High School graduate, and Brian told us about how he met a woman named Rachel on a backpacking trip through Guatemala â€" and how she wanted to bike across America.

Three Lakes Superintendent will be able to clear his record of domestic abuse charges

ONEIDA COUNTY - The Northwoods Superintendent who faced charges in connection to a domestic abuse complaint will be able to clear his record. The agreement for Dr. George Karling was filed June 26.

In a deal with prosecutors, Karling agreed to take an anger management assessment and follow through with treatment.

Tornado sirens may not be reliable, could be removed

ANTIGO - Many people in the Northwoods rely on tornado sirens to let them know when there's severe weather. However, recent tests in Antigo show that the siren system isn't as reliable as it needs to be.

The tornado sirens in Antigo need a lot of costly updates in order to work better. City leaders aren't sure if it's even worth having them anymore.

Study looks at invasive plants, some beyond containment

THREE LAKES - A new invasive species will give a snapshot of invasive plants in Three lakes. The study was presented to residents at the Demmer Memorial Library in Three Lakes on Monday.

The Three Lakes Natural & Cultural Resource Committee commissioned the study and won a grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to help pay for study.
