Be alert for tax return scams
OAK CREEK -- There is a new scam Oak Creek and police are warning residents to watch out for it in their mailbox.
A letter with a green dot card could be part of a nationwide scam. Police said someone is filing fraudulent tax returns and then telling the IRS to deposit any refunds into a green dot card.
"Everything's online, so the fraudster is continuously checking that account until-they see a deposit," said Oak Creek Police Detective Anne Golombowsk. "When the deposit is made, they take the money out."

Community mourns the death of trooper Trevor Casper
KIEL -- The community of Kiel is devastated by the loss of Wisconsin State Trooper Trevor Casper.
Casper was gunned down on his first day on patrol, alone.
He graduated from the academy in December and has spent about three months in training with other troopers. He was killed Tuesday when he came across a bank robbery suspect.
Casper's parents said he told them he was born ready to be a trooper. His parents said his death is a horrific loss.
In the small town of Kiel, you can feel the heartbreak. Casper was just 21-years-old.
He was known as a good athlete, a smart kid, and had a passion to help others.
"It was one of those rare and unique individuals that under serving others over self is what makes it worthwhile to come to work every day," said Kiel Police Chief Dave Funkhouser.
Funkhouser said he is close with the family. He delivered the heartbreaking news of Trevor's death to them.
"It was horrible. It was honorable, but it was very hard to do," Funkhouser said.
Funkhouser told lawmakers in Madison yesterday just how dangerous the job is; to find out he lost someone close hours later.
"Law enforcement officers every day put their lives on the line every day in the us," he said. "Every time we put on a uniform we don't know it will be our last. It will haunt me through my career to have said that in the afternoon and experience what I did later that evening.
Casper leaves behind parents Kevin and Debbie, two younger sisters and a girlfriend.
