Having trouble breathing? Blame Canadian wildfires
Smoke from Canadian wildfires has polluted the air in Wisconsin and many other Midwestern states.
"It's just like having smog or any other pollutant in the air that we don't normally have," said Dr. Mitchell Grayson, a pediatric asthma and allergy specialist at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.
The people most at risk of having trouble are those who suffer from pulmonary and heart diseases.
"If you do have these problems, often times it will make your lungs contract, which makes it hard to breathe. It's almost like you can be suffocating because your lungs contract and tighten up on you."
There are steps that can be taken.
"The best thing you can do is stay indoors and try not to be overly active," said Grayson, "and just take it easy."
Grayson encourages people to listen to their doctor's instructions and take any medicine they may need.
People who do not have respiratory issues are usually not at risk.
