'Feed the Kids' summer lunch program to provide meals for local kids
MILWAUKEE -- The Salvation Army is making sure local kids don't go hungry during summer break.
The group kicked off its "Feed the Kids" summer lunch program in Milwaukee on Monday.
City and community leaders helped prepare the first 1,800 lunches at Red Arrow Park.
"This way we take a little bit of pressure off the parents," said Major Dan Jennings with the Salvation Army. "Parents know that their kids are going to get a good meal, and that the Salvation Army is going to be there during the week days to provide those meals."
Last year, the program provided more than 124,000 meals to children between June and August.

Milwauke city officials to discuss plans to prevent flooding
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee officials want to prevent flooding and fight crime at the same time.
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District will unveil a plan Tuesday night at a special town hall meeting.
The plan includes new stormwater basins, draining pipes and beautifying neighborhoods.
