The Netherlands moved toward two more speedskating gold medals, easing through the quarterfinals of men’s and women’s team pursuit Friday. The U.S., on the other hand, didn’t qualify for either semifinal and the team will leave Sochi without a medal.

An unidentified German athlete has failed a drug test in the first announced doping case of the Sochi Olympics. The Germans did not name the athlete, the sport or the substance involved.

They did it again. The Canadians broke America’s collective hearts in another women’s hockey finale at the Winter Olympics. Team Canada overcame a two-goal deficit with two goals late in the third period and then scored the winner in overtime.

The United States led the women’s hockey final by two goals in the third period, but two goals by Canada in the final 3:26 pushed the game to overtime. In the sudden-death period, Canada’s Marie-Philip Poulin found the back of the net for the game-winner.
