Sylvia A. Block, 78, of Marion, passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Pine Manor Health Care Center, Embarrass.

The former Sylvia Ann Malueg was born on Nov. 8, 1936, in the town of Pella, Shawano County, to Ferdinand and Alma (Pankow) Malueg Sr. She was united in marriage on May 25, 1957, to Elmer J. Block at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline. The couple lived in the Tigerton area, where she drove bus and helped in the kitchen for some years with the Tigerton Head Start Program. Sylvia also worked at several restaurants in the area as well, but she was always most proud of being a homemaker and raising three children. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline.

In her younger years, Sylvia enjoyed polka dancing at several area dance halls. Her hobbies include fishing, playing Bingo and canasta, going for rides in the car, and she was an avid Packers fan. She liked participating in numerous activities at the Marion Senior Center, especially playing cards. Sylvia and her son Jerry loved going to lots of baseball games in Marion and Caroline over the years.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry Block, of Marion, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) Block, of Clintonville; five grandchildren, Paul Verstoppen, Ryan, Dustin, Austin and Christa Block; one great-grandson, Evan Block; six siblings, Elroy (Janice) Malueg, of Caroline, Lila Rickert, of Birnamwood, Ferdinand “Sonny” (Jane) Malueg Jr., of Caroline, Merlyn Malueg, of Tigerton, Linda (Dick) Rickert, of Mattoon, and Kathleen Malueg, of Tigerton. She is further survived by a special friend, Elmer Block, of Wittenberg; a godson, Joseph Rickert, of Fort Atkinson; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jean Verstoppen; two brothers, Vilas and Larry Malueg; and a brother-in-law, LeRoy Rickert.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 7, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Caroline. The Rev. Craig Nehring will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.

Sandra M. “Sandy” Ponfil, 75, of Neopit, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Sandy was born in Keshena on Oct. 5, 1939, to the late Robert D. and Mary (Neconish) Soman. After attending Antigo High School, Sandra moved to Chicago, where she lived until returning to the Menominee area. She was a generous, kind-hearted, fun-loving person with a great sense of humor. She was a great cook and enjoyed playing Bingo and slots as well as spending time with her family and friends.

Sandra is survived by her son, Jaime “Duke” Pocan; several grandchildren; a sister, Loretta McPherson; a special sister, Romaine Delabrue; three nieces, Denise (Kerry) Madosh, Darlene (Jim) Welk and Aletha McPherson; one nephew, Dana Grignon Jr.; and two special great-nephews, Peanut and Stormy.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis Tourtillott; her second husband, Rodger Ponfil Sr.; special friend, Edward “Budzie” Starr; her parents; two sisters, Marilyn J. Grignon and another sister, Marilyn, in infancy; and two brothers, Duane “Sonny” Soman and Bob Allen in infancy.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. David McElroy, O.Praem, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Neopit Community Center, beginning at 3 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, until the time of the funeral on Wednesday.

Imogene May Toellner, 81, of Bonduel, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015, in Green Bay.

Imogene was born to the late Arthur S. and Evelyn (James) Naparalla on May 23, 1933, in Shawano County, the oldest of five children. She was united in marriage to Leonard J. Toellner on Oct. 18, 1952, in Bonduel. Leonard preceded her in death in January 2002.

Imogene was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church in Bonduel, loved nature, watching the animals and gardening. She was a fan of NASCAR, especially Matt Kenseth, the Brewers, the Badgers and the Packers. Imogene especially enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and family.

Imogene is survived by her children, Delbert Toellner and Diana Gift, both of Bonduel; one grandson, Jay (Jenny) Toellner, of Bonduel; three great-grandchildren, Dustin, Emma and Jayson. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters, Arthur (Mary Jane) Naparalla Jr., of Bonduel, Wayne Naparalla, of Green Bay, Joan Van Dyck, of De Pere, and Phyllis (John) Ditzman, of Green Bay.

She was preceded in death by her children, Dale, Daniel and Duane, and her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel with the Rev. Virgil Hanson officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3 p.m. until the time of the services.

Our sister, Marie Constance Hagen, joined our loved ones in Heaven on Sunday, March 29, 2015. She was born in Shawano on Christmas Day 1958 to Bertrand and Helen (Nelessen) Hagen.

Marie lived a long life with the challenges of Downs Syndrome. For 27 years, Marie was under the tender loving care of Dorothy and Edward Hahn, of Waupaca. Dorothy is truly an angel sent by God to do His most loving work. Words cannot express the gratitude of our family toward her and her family for the never-ending patience and devotion in nurturing our sister.

Also, to the staff at Clarity Care in New London, where Marie lived her last five years, we would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for their part in ensuring Marie’s comfort, protection and well-being.

Last but not least, the hospital and hospice staff of New London. May God richly bless all of you.

Marie is survived by her siblings, Lyle (Rose) Hagen, Phil and Kathy Hagen, Elaine and Kurt Schroeder, Rita and Glen Rancier, Rose Hagen, Clara Duebler, Greg and Phyl Peters, Mike and Jane Velie, George (Sandra) Hagen, and Mark and Alicia Hagen. Marie is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, 14 great-nieces and great-nephews, and her foster parents, Edward and Dorothy Hahn, and their family, of Waupaca.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Helen Hagen, and one niece, Erin Schroeder.

A funeral Mass for Marie will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Shawano. The Rev. Luke Ferris will be the celebrant. Interment will be in the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, town of How, Oconto County. Relatives and friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the hour of Mass.

Marie M. Gluth, 89, of Clintonville, passed away Monday morning, March 30, 2015, at Pine Manor Healthcare Center in Embarrass.

Marie was born on Nov. 22, 1925, in the Township of Bear Creek, Waupaca County, as the daughter of the late John and Mabel (Burton) Stilen. On June 19, 1948, she was united in marriage to Paul A. Gluth at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville. The couple resided in Clintonville their entire married life. Marie worked as a nurse at Greentree Health & Rehabilitation Center for many years before retiring in the late 1970s. Paul preceded his wife in death on Jan. 21, 2002.

Marie was a faithful member of St. Martin Lutheran Church, where she enjoyed volunteering as a member of the Ladies Aid. She loved baking, especially when it included spending time with her grandchildren. Marie also enjoyed dancing, flower gardens and socializing with friends at the Clintonville Senior Center.

Survivors include four daughters, Colleen Swift, Marietta, Georgia, Connie (Bruce) Parkovich, Marinette, Ronda (Tim) Olmsted, Pulaski, and Renee (Dan) Katch, Freedom; a daughter-in-law, Connie Gluth, Clintonville; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson; and one brother, Joe (Marcille) Stilen, Leeman.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; son, Douglas Gluth; six sisters, Lucille Pietz, Vaiden Peeters, Jeanette McGlone, Lillian McGlone, Marjorie Peeters and Isla Flink-Suprise; four brothers, Gordon, Merlin, Ira and Virgil Stilen.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville with the Rev. Christian Burg officiating. Interment will take place at St. Martin Lutheran Cemetery, Clintonville.

Edith Knepfel, of Saukville, passed away in the evening hours of Thursday, March 26, 2015, at Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Port Washington. She was 80 years old.

Edith was born on July 18, 1934, in Shawano, daughter of Robert Engel Sr. and Gertrude Gralow Engel. She grew up on the family dairy farm and enjoyed participating in many 4-H activities, including showing dairy cattle. She also liked playing piano and the saxophone. Edith graduated from Shawano High School in 1952. She continued her education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received her bachelor’s degree in education in 1956. Edith taught home economics at the high school level.

On June 2, 1962, she married Allen Knepfel at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, Iowa. The couple moved to Saukville in 1963. Edith was a member of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, where she helped in the church office. She also was active as a leader in 4-H and the Gals for Good Government. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening and assisting her husband, Allen, with his Coast Guard Auxiliary activities.

Edith is survived by her four children, Mary (Glenn) Burrows, of Cuba City, Carol Knepfel, of Sun Prairie, Robert (Renee) Knepfel, of Port Washington, and Janice (Matthew Kenworthy) Knepfel, of Oegstgeest, The Netherlands. She is further survived by three stepchildren: Charlotte Knepfel, of Kohler, Christine Harder, of Sauk City, and Charles (Dana) Knepfel, of Kekoskee; 11 grandchildren, Cynthia, Karen, Anna, Allen, Courtney, Paul, Audrey, Robert, Marietta, Anja and Elizabeth; brother, Robert (Bonnie) Engel Jr., of Shawano; brothers-in-law, William Knepfel, of Kiel, and Harold (the late Barbara) Sinner, of Elkhart Lake; and sister, Helen (James) Kuhfuss, of Sheboygan Falls; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Allen, and her stepdaughter, Cynthia Yapp.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 7, at 6 p.m. at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Saukville. The Rev. Brian Damrow will preside. Visitation will precede the service on April 7 from 4-6 p.m. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in Union Cemetery in Saukville.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ or the Ozaukee County 4-H Foundation.

Helen L. Smarzewski, 74, of Shawano, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015, at her home.

Helen was born on April 22, 1941, in Daggett, Michigan, the daughter of the late Arthur and Ellen (Carlson) Johnson. Helen was united in marriage to Stanley Smarzewski on July 28, 1984, in Appleton and lived her entire married life in Shawano.

Helen is survived by her husband, Stanley; her daughter, Lydia (Wesley) Welch, of Coleman; stepchildren, JoAnn, Cindy (Carl), John, Stanley, Denise (Carl) and Cheri; two grandchildren, Sheldon and Cody (Cheyenne Cameron) Welch; several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as one sister, Beverly Golden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. Melinda Shriner officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and again on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the services.

Edith Marie Schutt, 89, of Shawano, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, March 27, 2015, at Maple Lane in Shawano.

Edith was born on Nov. 11, 1925, in Shawano, the daughter of the late Raymond and Marie (Bauman) Webster. On April 9, 1944, Edith was united in marriage to Ewald Schutt in Shawano. They lived and farmed in the township of Richmond. Mom was by Pap’s side until his passing on Feb. 15, 2001. The couple enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and shared a love of polka dancing. She was a lifelong member of the Shawano United Methodist Church, where she volunteered at many church activities. At the age of 86, she remained an active member of Curves. Edith took great pride in planting a garden, always sharing with others and keeping her yard immaculate. She was also proud of her many flower beds and exhibiting at the Shawano County Fair, winning many merit awards. She was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing with her beloved pets by her side.

Edith is survived by her three sons, Rick (Kathie) Schutt, of Shawano, Randy (Theresa) Schutt, of New London, and Duane (Bonnie) Schutt, of Shawano; two daughters, Debra (Jon) Westphal, of Shawano, and Becky Bscherer, of Krakow; her grandchildren, Shelly (Rick Althaus) Schutt, Kelly Schutt, Rodney (Christine) Schutt, Tammie (Steve) Schenk, Jason (Angie) Westphal, Ryan (Samantha Flaig) Westphal, Cameron Bscherer and Clayton (Katie Woldt) Bscherer; great-grandchildren, Adam, Zachary and Lucas Schutt, Josh and Faith Schenk, and Gage and Evelyn Westphal. She is further survived by her sister, Doris Kroenke, of Shawano; her brother, Ray (Sue) Webster, of Ohio; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Webster and Phyllis Webster.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ewald “Pap”; son, Bradley in infancy; a great-granddaughter, Kayla; two brothers, Raymond and Clyde Webster; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertrude (Ruben) Radloff, Jeanette (Roger) Gipp, Alice (Harold) Hanson, Arlene (Lloyd) Bussian, Shirley Webster and Leroy Kroenke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at the United Methodist Church on the Hill in Shawano with the Rev. Allen Christensen and the Rev. Domnik Israel officiating.

Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano and again at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

Memorials may be directed to either the Shawano County Humane Society or Happily Ever After Animal Sanctuary.

Cynthia D. (Beyer) Taylor, 57, of Shawano, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, in Shawano. Cynthia was born in Sturgeon Bay on April 16, 1957, to the late William and Dolores (Ebert) Beyer. She loved caring for and helping people, which led her to work as a nursing assistant for several years and later pursue her degree as a registered nurse. Cynthia loved gardening and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shawano.

Cynthia is survived by her children, Cassandra (Jamie Besaw) Hodkiewicz, of Shawano, and Jesse Taylor, of Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, Alexis, Hendrick and Mable Mae; her brothers and sisters, William F. (Donna) Beyer, of Shawano, Brad (Marina) Beyer, of Kewaunee, Beth (James) Trammel, of Kaukauna, Michael (Audra) Beyer, of West Bend, and Theodore (Diane) Beyer, of Milwaukee; her brother-in-law, Jack Swoboda, of Madison; as well as her aunt, Darlene (Leon) Krake, of Shiocton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Bonita Swoboda.

Norman Herman Brei, 85, of Gresham, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015.

Norman was born on April 4, 1929, in Leopolis, to the late Herman Brei and Clara (Krueger) Brei-Schlender. In 1934, the Herman Brei family moved to Gresham, where Norman lived since. Norman and his sister, Delores, both attended Gresham School and graduated in May 1947.

When Norman was 18, he got his first job at the Gresham Co-Op working nights and weekends, staying there for 20 years. In 1947, he also worked full time at the Gresham IGA grocery store, which is now called The Towne Mart, and was employed there for 60-plus years. Besides working at the co-op and the grocery store, he worked two years at the Gresham post office and was a bartender at the Woodland Resort in Gresham for 25 years. He took several trips over the years to various places such as Washington, California, Mexico and Jamaica.

Norman never married, and his closest relatives, whom he thought the world of, were his niece Sue (Oldenburg) Wedde, great-nephew David Wedde and great-niece Amy Anton. He was a member of the Gresham Lions Club since 1964.

Norman was a cheerful, friendly, special man, who loved to be around people and never said an unkind word about anyone and will be missed by all who knew him, especially his niece, Sue.

Norman is survived by his niece, Sue (Ben) Wedde, of Clintonville, a great-niece, Amy Anton, of Madison, a great-nephew, David Wedde, of Clintonville, as well as numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Delores Oldenburg, in December 2010; his brother-in-law, Ervin Oldenburg, in August 1992; nieces, Carol and Joyce Oldenburg; nephew, Roger Oldenburg; great-niece, Mary Rose Wedde; stepfather, Arthur Schlender; and nephew-in-law, Ben Wedde.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church in Gresham with the Rev. John C. Eyer officiating, with burial in Zion Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

Alice Smith, 97, Manawa, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. She was born on Sept. 16, 1917, in Wild Rose, the daughter of Gilbert and Janet (Lane) Stevenson.

Alice was raised in Wild Rose and in the town of Union, where she attended Dellwood and Marble schools. She married Everett Smith on June 10, 1936, and lived on a farm in the town of Bear Creek until moving to Manawa in 1989. Everett died on May 19, 1990.

Alice was always the first one up in the morning and the last one to bed at night, busy with farm chores (although she disliked driving the tractor), cooking, baking and gardening. After moving to Manawa, she enjoyed Friday night fish with the girls, playing cards and going to the nutritional center at noon on Wednesdays. For years, she enjoyed the rodeo parade that went by her house. She always had a smile for everyone. Rarely did you hear an unkind word about anyone, and she had a list of people that she prayed for every night.

She is survived by her son, Dale, of Spencer, and daughter, Bonnie LeClair; of Appleton; two grandsons, Paul LeClair; of Appleton, and Jon LeClair; of Milwaukee; great-grandsons, Cole LeClair, West Bend, and Zack (Bree) Sowieja, Moose Lake, Minnesota; two stepgranddaughters, Michele Enli, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Nanette (John) Sowieja, of Rifle, Colorado; two great-great-grandchildren, Carter and Emma Sowieja; two sisters-in-law, Hazel Stevenson and Erma Stevenson, both of Clintonville; and a brother- in-law, the Rev. Richard Brunner, of Wittenberg. She is further survived by cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Bernard and Orin Stevenson; and son-in-law, Roger LeClair; as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, Elearnor (Walter) Petrie, Harold (Thelma) Smith, George (Dorothy) Smith, Leona (Ray) Jorgenson and Hazel Brunner.

Her funeral will be on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the Manawa United Methodist Church, where she was a long-time member, with the Rev. Dale Eggert officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Mom wanted to thank her wonderful friends and family, as well as the Rev. Dale Eggert and her church family for being a part of her life. Her family would like to thank the Manawa Community Nursing Center and the many angels that work there. Their care and compassion were greatly appreciated.

Harvey L. Patzer, 87, of Shawano, formerly of Tigerton, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, in Shawano.

Harvey was born on Dec. 18, 1925, in Waupaca, the son of the late Ourley H. and Helen (Petrowski) Patzer. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Army. In May 1949, Harvey was united in marriage to Delores Umland in Birnamwood. In December 1985, Harvey was united in marriage to his second wife, Jacqueline Mae Ruprecht, in Tigerton.

Harvey enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially his trips to Canada.

Harvey is survived by his children, Jada Moonstone “Janet” Patzer, of North Carolina, and Lester “Les” (Judy) Patzer, of Florida; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald Patzer, of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline, on Sept. 24, 2013, his parents and his former wife, Delores, in April 2012.

Mark A. Carrigg, 57, of the town of Belle Plaine, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at his residence, with his family by his side.

Mark Allen Carrigg was born Jan. 5, 1958, in Milwaukee. After graduation from high school, Mark served an apprenticeship and later became an electrician. He was united in marriage to Donna Spreeman on Oct. 16, 1989, in Waupaca. Mark loved sports and was involved in coaching his sons in both youth wrestling and youth baseball. He had a love of the outdoors and hunted in his younger years. Mark is loved and will be missed by family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Donna; sons, Lucas and Darin; mother, Lois; sisters, Kathy, Tracy and Kris; many nieces and nephews.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date.

Beatrice June (Lawrenz) Naumann, 83, of Cecil, was called home Friday, March 20, 2015, in Shawano. She was born April 28, 1931, to the late William (Mike) and Erna (Bankert) Lawrenz in the town of Washington.

On Oct. 20, 1951, Beatrice was married to Joe Naumann at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cecil. Besides being a homemaker, Beatrice helped her husband on the farm in the town of Green Valley. She was very active in many church and civic activities. Beatie loved her Lord, her husband, her children and her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe; her children, Patricia (Scott Gibson) Naumann, Michael (Sara) Naumann, Bonnie (Robert Karbon) Schultz, Dan (Tamatha) Naumann; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth (Matt) Sheehan, Timothy (BreAnn) Schultz, Rachael Naumann, Chris Schultz, Andy Naumann, Eric Naumann and Evan Naumann; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, KyLee and Ethan Schultz; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Beatrice was preceded in death by two daughters, Jill (Naumann) Hoff and Tammy Naumann; her parents; four sisters and their spouses, Ruth and Elmer Luepke, Gladys and Harvey Berkhahn, Sylvia and Edward Berkhahn, and Bernice and Vernon Schneider.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cecil with the Rev. Steven Pockat officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at Swedberg-Wendt Funeral Home in Bonduel and again at the church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.

Tammy Marie Hottenstine, 52, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, March 20, 2015.

Tammy was born on Dec. 18, 1962, to the late Ephriam J. and Judith A. (Hockers) Wood. She was a graduate of Columbine High School in Colorado. On Feb. 26, 1994, Tammy was united in marriage to Steven Hottenstine, and they lived their entire married life in Shawano.

Tammy loved fishing, camping and spending time with her family.

Tammy is survived by her husband, Steve; two sons, Jeremy (fiancée Stacey), of Black Creek, and Steve (fiancée Nicole), of Green Bay; five grandchildren, Marissa, Allie, Bailey, Jace and Steven.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 27, 2015, at Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from noon until the time of the service.

Victor D. Vigue Jr., 49, of Manitowoc, died unexpectedly Sunday, March 22, 2015, at his residence.

Victor was born June 18, 1965, in Manitowoc, son of Victor Vigue and Mary Kay Wastel. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and watching football. He especially loved spending time with his beautiful daughter, Tehya.

He is survived by one daughter, Tehya Vigue, Manitowoc; his fiancée, Kris Kloida, Manitowoc; father and stepmother, Victor (Shirley) Vigue, Denmark; mother, Mary Kay Wastel, Shawano; three sisters, Tina (Dennis) Luckow, Florida, Kim (Dave) Theis, Manitowoc, and Amy Joe Vigue, Green Bay; three stepbrothers: Dean Morgan (special friend, Vicki Dvorak) Green Bay, Doug (Jodi) Morgan, Denmark, and Dave Morgan, Two Rivers; one nephew, Drew Luckow; four nieces, Hannah Luckow, Alisha Theis, Emma Morgan and Kiley Morgan. Other relatives and friends also survive.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Gary Wastel, maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015, at the Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 1122 S. 8th St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Dr. Jim Klein will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name.

Arnold Henry “Nookie” Thomas, 87, of Shawano, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at his home.

Arnold was born March 24, 1927, in Shawano, a son of the late Herman and Hattie (Meisner) Thomas. He attended the Shawano schools, graduating from high school in 1946. After high school he worked at Gehrke Montour Heating in Shawano. On Sept. 27, 1952, he was united in marriage to the former Ruth Ann Engel at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The couple spent their entire married life in Shawano.

In 1962, Arnold attended barber school in Green Bay. He owned and operated the Model Barber Shop from 1964-1991. In retirement, he and Ruth wintered in Florida.

Arnold was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Shawano. He was an avid bird watcher. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and snowmobiling. He enjoyed the board game Aggravation. Arnold was a true family man and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ruth Thomas; one daughter, Jane (Daniel) Schumacher, of Shawano; one son, James (Cheryl) Thomas, of Lakeville, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Anthony and Allison Thomas; one brother, Franklin “Huntz” Thomas, of Shawano; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Grover and an infant brother, Robert Thomas, and one infant sister, Mary Ella Thomas.

Funeral services for Arnold Thomas will be on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Ron Raddatz will officiate. Interment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Shawano. Relatives and friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service.

The family has requested memorials in Arnold’s name for Resurrection Lutheran Church.
