MADISON - Civil rights advocates tell a federal appeals court that Wisconsin's gay marriage ban denies same-sex couples legal protections.
The American Civil Liberties union also argued the ban serves no rational government purpose.
The group filed a brief with the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals on Monday.

ROTHSCHILD - Police say a 25-year-old man should recover non-life threatening injures after getting shot near a bar early Sunday morning in Rothschild.
The 25-year-old man was shot in the thigh outside of PJs Log Jam in Rothschild.
LAC DU FLAMBEAU - Leaders of the Youth Center in Lac du Flambeau and Ojibwe Language program use mural painting to teach kids about Ojibwe culture.
About 25 kids have spent this summer painting four murals. They spend about two to three hours a day, five days per week on the murals.

Last winter's propane shortage has a lot of people worried about not having enough affordable gas. Prices reached record numbers and there wasn't enough propane coming into the Midwest.
Some propane dealers think this year might not be any better.

Pellet stoves burn wood pellets to heat homes. They're a renewable resource so heating suppliers think there will never be a shortage of them. And they're less expensive.
GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Packers announced on Monday that Brett Favre will rejoin the franchise's family. The 16-year Packer quarterback will get his number retired and get inducted into the Packer Hall of Fame in 2015. Team leaders believe this is the right time to honor Favre.

MADISON - Transportation officials say 39 people were killed in Wisconsin traffic crashes last month, the second-lowest figure for a month of July since 1937.
The state Department of Transportation says last month's figure represents 18 fewer deaths than in July of last year, and 19 fewer than the five-year average for the month of July.
MADISON - Wisconsin's Chippewa tribes will get a chance next month to tell a federal appeals court why members should be allowed to hunt deer at night.

SHAWANO COUNTY - Shawano County deputies want to find a man suspected of stealing a semi and hitting a squad car during a pursuit.
Deputies, who believed the semi was stolen, tried to pull it over early Sunday evening.
The driver fled and twice backed the semi into one of the pursuing squads.

School leaders wanted to give back to both its alumni and students at Forest Fest on Saturday. They held a raffle where alumni could win a one thousand dollar scholarship. The winning alum gets to choose a program of their choosing to donate the money to. The money helps the school teach kids about the forest with hands on experiences.

TOWN OF BRADLEY - Deputies don't know what caused a Rhinelander man to lose control of his truck and crash into a ditch. Lincoln County deputies say the crash happened at about 4:20 p.m. on Saturday on northbound U.S. Highway 51 just north of Crass Road in the Town of Bradley.
Witnesses told deputies the truck, which was towing a pop-up style camper, drifted across the northbound lanes into the median.
