Bears suffer tough loss at Oconto

Tue, 06/02/2015 - 8:39am
Injuries, illness derail Bonduel playoff hopesBy:

Leader Photo by Jason Arndt Bonduel High School sophomore Kailee Pedersen takes a swing in the WIAA Division 3 regional championship Saturday at Holtwood Park in Oconto. The 10-2 loss ended Bonduel's season.

A depleted pitching staff and illness were too much for Bonduel High School to overcome in a WIAA Division 3 regional softball championship game Saturday in Oconto.

Fresh off a three-game winning streak -- the longest of the Bears' season, Bonduel had neither the hitting or pitching needed to upset Oconto, which advanced with a 10-2 win.

It was the second straight year that Oconto knocked the Bears out of postseason play in a regional final.

Bonduel outscored its opponents 24-5 in the opening two rounds of regional play, but Oconto pitcher Becky Berth held the Bears to four hits while striking out five and walking two through six innings.

Pitching on short rest, BHS senior starter Jen Dowden mustered all she could, but allowed five runs in the first two innings.

To make matters worse, sophomore shortstop Kailee Pedersen got sick en route to Holtwood Park.

“We were a little bit concerned about that and we weren’t sure if she was even able to play,” coach Chris Reinke said. “If we had Jen healthy and Kailee healthy, it would have been a different ballgame; they are two very important ballplayers.”

Pedersen, the team’s leadoff hitter, managed to play and posted the first run of the game on a fielding error in the top of the first inning.

The Blue Devils (14-8, 5-5 Packerland Conference) scored four runs in the second, with a wild pitch, passed ball and two stolen bases contributing to the rally.

Reinke called on Cameri Gehm to pitch in the third inning, shifting Dowden to the infield. Over the final four innings, Gehm allowed five runs, four walks and five hits.

“We have been battling injuries through the whole season and we have had people stepping up and playing out of positions,” Reinke said.

Bonduel (8-15, 5-9 Central Wisconsin Conference-8) scored its second run on a third-inning single from Kaylee Rynish to score Lexi Reinke.

Oconto coach Jeremy Wusterbarth said the Bears were not the same team he saw when the squads split a doubleheader to start the season,

“Coach Reinke does a wonderful job and I know they are a much better team than what we saw today," he said. "They had a couple of injuries and we were able to capitalize on them.

“Bonduel is a very good team and they play in a very tough conference, and have great competition. I told these girls this could be same result as earlier in the season.”

Reinke noted that while the Bears will lose Dowden, Reinke and second baseman Deanna Zernicke to graduation, she remains hopeful for a good season next year, including the return of Pedersen.

“We are going get a lot of key players back and (Pedersen) is an excellent ballplayer and a very good competitor," Reinke said. "She is very smart. She will be someone to keep an eye for in the next two seasons.”

Marines sink Shawano’s tourney run

Sat, 05/30/2015 - 7:48am
Hawks fall in 6 innings in regional finalBy:

By Jody Korch, [email protected]

Marinette EagleHerald Photo Shawano Community High School catcher Courtney Ainsworth tries in vain to tag out Marinette’s Kierstin Metzner in the fourth inning of Friday’s regional title game in Marinette. Pitcher Erin Cerveny is at left.

The way this team hits, Marinette’s first regional high school softball title in 11 years was practically inevitable.

Marinette crushed Shawano 13-3 in six innings, then celebrated with its WIAA Division 2 regional championship trophy at Scott Field.

“Feels so good,” junior shortstop Teya Lambie said. “We have all those people who doubted us going into last year.”

Shawano (12-15) was no pushover, and the Hawks threatened to break out to a big lead. An error, a Courtney Ainsworth single and two walks forced in one run, but Shawano left the bases loaded with one out.

Marinette answered with three runs in its first at-bat. Following an error and an Ellie Wahl base hit, Cassie Hilbert, Mackenzie Francour and Marissa Mailand hit consecutive RBI singles.

“The fact that they showed that resiliency early on in the game just shows what they’re made of,” Marinette coach Corry Lambie said. “I consider myself very fortunate to be around such a great group of young ladies.”

Shawano tied the game in the second. Saige Henning blasted a two-out solo home run to left, Allison Raddant beat out an infield single, and Courtney Ainsworth, who was 2 for 4, followed with an RBI double.

The Marines regained the lead in their half of the second. Teya Lambie singled, stole second and scored on Wahl’s two-out line-shot double to left/center.

In the fourth, the roof caved in on Shawano’s upset hopes. Walks to Chloe Lambie and McKenzie Bebo to start the inning set the stage, and 12 Marines batted. Wahl drive an RBI single to center and Hilbert reached on an error.

“We have a lot of respect for the way Marinette hits,” Shawano coach Kevin Isaacson said. “They just clobber the ball. We needed to play perfect defense, and we didn’t play perfect defense.”

Francour beat out an infield hit to knock in the third run of the inning. Mailand drew a bases-loaded walk, and another run scored on an error. Teya Lambie and Chloe Lambie slapped RBI singles to left for an 11-3 lead.

Marinette’s excellent play is a product of good preparation.

“I just think they come to practice ready to work and ready to learn every night,” coach Lambie said. “I would say two nights ago was probably our best practice of the year. Bottom line — they come hungry to learn, hungry to work.”

Mailand reached on an infield hit and scored on Kierstin Metzner’s opposite-field single in the fifth.

“Hitting is contagious,” Teya Lambie said. “When I see Kierstin hit, I want to hit.”

The 10-run rule came into play in the sixth. McKenzie Bebo doubled, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Wahl’s flyout to center.

Sydney Schreiber took the loss. She worked five innings, giving up seven runs on 11 hits and two walks, while striking out three.

Wahl struggled early but shut out the Hawks over the final four innings. She struck out six, walked five and yielded four hits.

The defense behind Wahl was strong. Teya Lambie ended first inning by smothering a hard grounder and racing over the second base for a forceout. McKenzie Bebo made a nice stab at first base for a putout in the third, and center fielder Taylor Bebo ran down a fly in the fourth. Left fielder Marissa Mailand also made a nice running catch.

“We always talk about picking each other up,” Teya Lambie said. “Just errors and stuff, we didn’t let it get to us. I’m so proud of our seniors (Wahl, Hilbert and Francour). They’re the ones who kept us going.”

Marinette (20-4, 12-4 Bay Conference) will play in a sectional semifinal Tuesday in Sturgeon Bay against Bay Conference champion Luxemburg-Casco, which advanced with a 1-0, extra-inning win over West De Pere.

Shawano ended the season 11-15 overall, 7-9 in the Bay.

Tigers’ scores beat storms, Manawa

Tigerton wins game in 8th on 5 consecutive walksBy:

Leader Photo by Troy A. Bruzewski Erin Buch, middle, scores the game-winning run for Tigerton and is greeted by Summer Kopitzke, left, and Alexus Krueger. The Tigers defeated Manawa 8-7 in eight innings in a WIAA Division 4 regional final.

The Tigerton High School softball team was twice on the ropes against Manawa in Friday’s WIAA Division 4 regional final at home.

Fortunately for the Tigers, their most important score arrived in the bottom of the eighth inning, prior to the heavy showers that soon soaked the area, to win their first regional title since 2012.

Summer Kopitzke pitched a complete-game win and scored the game-tying run in the Tigers’ 8-7 victory.

“(Kopitzke) has pitched 21 innings the past three days and hasn’t laid off a bit,” Tigerton coach Glenda Smith said.

While Kopitzke got the win on the mound, it was the Tigers’ patience at the plate that scored the winning run.

Trailing 7-6 with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Kopitzke drew a walk to keep the game alive. Manawa pitcher Morgan Zielke then allowed another two walks to load the bases.

Sarah Schumaker then came to the plate, and Smith said the call was for patience.

“I knew (Zielke) was having problems controlling her pitches and when the counts reached three balls, I told them to make her throw another strike,” she said.

Schumaker drew a walk to score Kopitzke for the game-tying run. Amber Brown drew Tigerton’s fifth consecutive walk to score Erin Buch for the game-winner.

Tigerton needed a rally in the sixth, as well, to stay alive in the contest. Ashley Knaup reached base on an error and scored on a Buch single, tying the game at 6-6.

Neither team could get the go-ahead run in the seventh, but a walk followed by a double gave the Wolves a 7-6 advantage in the top of the eighth and set the stage for Tigerton’s final at-bat.

Manawa, the No. 5 seed, got on the board first with a run in the opening inning, but No. 2 Tigerton responded with a Sarah Gauthier run in the bottom of the first.

The 1-1 tie remained until the third inning, when Manawa reclaimed the lead with five runs. The Wolves had five hits and batted around the lineup, taking a 6-1 lead.

The Tigers got back into the game over the following two at bats. Morgan Marquardt scored on a Kopitzke hit in the third to make the score 6-2. Then Marquardt, Gauthier and Megan Anheuser each scored in the fourth, with Kopitzke delivering another RBI hit, cutting the margin to 6-5.

Gauthier and Marquardt had two hits and two runs scored for Tigerton (14-8, 8-5 Central Wisconsin Conference-10).

Kopitzke allowed four walks and six hits with four strikeouts.

Zielke took the loss, allowing seven hits and eight walks over eight innings with four strikeouts.

Manawa ended its season at 3-17 overall and 0-13 in the Central Wisconsin Conference-8.

Tigerton will open sectional play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at home against the winner of the game Friday between Three Lakes/Phelps and Niagara.

Speedway community resembles close-knit family

Sat, 05/30/2015 - 7:31am
By:

Scott Owen, Special to the Leader

On May 19, a young member of the Shawano Speedway racing family passed away. Seth Henry was a great friend to many racers, as well as a go-kart racer, ice racer and enduro racer himself.

Seth was a fine young man liked by many. His racing roots run deep. His grandfather Bob Maas was one of the front-runners at the track back in the 1960s and early ’70s; his uncle Robbie Maas is a multi-time track champion at the Shawano Speedway.

Saturday night, no less than seven racers carried the black flag to honor Seth’s memory. Many members of his family were also at the track. The night also carried additional significance being Memorial Day weekend.

The Caroline VFW Color Guard presented the colors and cars carried black flags in honor of our military along with those carrying black flags for Seth. It was hard to find a dry eye in the house, mine included.

The night was also part of the Kim Parsons Memorial Trophy Tour, which honors Kim Parsons, who passed away in 2008 at the age of 21. Her father, Steve Parsons, a longtime racing announcer, put together the tour as a way to honor her memory and support a great cause. She was an organ and tissue donor, and the tour is to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.

Nick Anvelink secured one of the trophies with an exciting last-lap pass to win the Late Model feature. After the night’s events, Nick was joined by members of Seth’s family, including his mother and siblings. In a random act of kindness often seen at race tracks, Anvelink gave the impressive looking trophy to Seth’s younger brother, Tristan. This is a moment that will be remembered many years from now by Seth’s family and by Nick.

It is nights like this that draw people to the local racing scene. Drivers and fans supporting a grieving family, our nation’s military and a very worthy cause. In my humble opinion, it is why generations of fans keep coming back and why fans are so passionate about this sport.

One of the biggest nights at the track is the annual “Racing For A Reason” night, this year held on July 11, but If you look closely things like this happen nearly every race night. Take a close look next time and see for yourself.

See you at the speedway.

Shawano unable to withstand Thunder pressure

Leader Photo by Jason Arndt Shawano Community High School junior Sarah Dickmann charges toward the ball against Seymour defender Catie Kollath in Thursday’s Bay Conference tournament game. Shawano lost 6-3 to the Thunder.

Sarah Dickmann was the primary target for the Seymour High School girls soccer team entering its Bay Conference tournament showdown with Shawano on Thursday.

The junior forward scored three goals for Shawano in a 3-2 win in the teams’ first meeting of the season, but the Thunder kept her at bay Thursday in a 6-3 win at Shawano to claim fifth-place in the tourney.

“Last time we defended her, we were too out of control,” Seymour coach Todd Messner said. “We were able to keep her in front of us, and made her pass the ball.”

Shawano coach Bob Croschere attributed the loss more to the Hawks’ play than Seymour’s changes.

“I don’t think they played any different against us (Thursday), we just did not show up tonight,” he said.

The Hawks fell behind early after Seymour knocked in three goals, including two from Thunder sophomore Annamarie Froehlich and one from senior Kelsey Kominowski, less than 15 minutes into the game.

Junior Teagan Monfils secured the first Shawano goal with three minutes remaining in the first half.

“She has been playing consistently and is always in motion and gets a lot of loose balls, and she happened to get one,” Croschere said.

Seymour remained aggressive through the entire match, maintaining ball control in Hawks’ territory, and continued to barrage Shawano goalie Carlie Hinnefield, who saved five of 11 shots.

“We didn’t possess the ball well the entire game,” Croschere said. “They were the aggressor the entire night.”

Seymour (13-4-3, 6-3-1 Bay Conference) responded early in the second half with two goals within the first five minutes, including Kominowski’s second and third of the game.

Shawano (8-9-2, 5-3-2 Bay) made a push in the final 20 minutes with goals from junior Megan Klitzke (71st minute) and senior Louisa Keenan (72nd minute).

Thunder goalies Madilyn Heinke and Leslie Scheurer combined for six saves, with Heinke making four of the stops.

Following the game, the WIAA released the Division 2 bracket. No. 5 Shawano will play at fourth-seeded Hortonville (7-9, 2-7 Fox Valley Association) June 4.

Leader Photo by Troy A. Bruzewski Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School outfielders Kendra Stoltz (13) and Danica Wendler (11) nearly collide making a catch in the outfield during the Chargers’ 7-3 loss to Shawano in a WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal game Thursday in Shawano.

For the second consecutive postseason game, the Shawano Community High School softball team had to overcome early offense from its opponent.

Thursday, the second-seeded Hawks hosted No. 6 Wittenberg-Birnamwood in the WIAA Division 2 regional semifinal after overcoming an early deficit to defeat Clintonville on Wednesday.

Witt-Birn took an early lead, with Jessica Anderson and Sophia Carter each scoring in the top of the first.

However, the Hawks answered to take the lead in the second and scored four runs in the final two innings to take a 7-3 win and advance to the regional final at 1:30 p.m. Friday against top-seed Marinette.

Seniors Nicole Ainsworth and Briana Boda each scored two runs for the Hawks, who needed adjustments at the plate after the first inning.

“We were swinging at some high pitches early and it’s because the girls were anxious to swing the bat,” Shawano coach Kevin Isaacson said. “Once we stayed disciplined, it became an exciting game.”

Ainsworth started the Hawks’ second at-bat by reaching on an error. Brianna Zook drew a walk before an RBI single by Boda and two walks that scored runs.

Shawano’s 3-2 lead held until the fifth inning, when Wittenberg-Birnamwood tied the game as Kendra Stoltz scored on a Denee Reimer single.

The Hawks reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs, again produced by the middle of their lineup. Ainsworth, Zook and Boda each reached base, with Ainsworth and Boda scoring runs to give Shawano a 5-3 lead.

Junior Sydney Schreiber (2-3), who went the distance to earn the win for the Hawks, allowed only one hit in the final two innings.

For good measure, the Hawks added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning, with Julia Haarth and Saige Henning each scoring, and Henning and Courtney Ainsworth each producing an RBI.

Schreiber allowed five hits and allowed one walk over six innings with one strikeout.

Anderson took the loss for the Chargers (6-18, 3-10 Central Wisconsin Conference-8), pitching four innings and allowing five hits and striking out two.

Marinette (18-4, 12-4 Bay Conference), which finished second in the conference, won both ends of a doubleheader with Shawano on May 9, 7-6 and 6-3. The Hawks (11-14, 7-9 Bay) finished sixth in the Bay standings.

“We had them beat 6-3 in the seventh and made a couple of mistakes,” Isaacson said of the 7-6 loss. “They are very well-coached and hit through the lineup.

“I think it’s a fun matchup, and if we decide to hit, we can play with anybody.”

Mckenzie Bebo and Ellie Wahl each batted .492 this season for Marinette and finished among the top-five hitters in the conference. The Marines defeated Seymour, 6-2, to earn their regional final berth.

Hawks cruise in regional opener

Shawano trounces Clintonville, 15-0By:

Leader Photo by Troy A. Bruzewski Shawano Community High School sophomore Saige Henning picks up the ball for a throw to first during Wednesday’s win over Clintonville.

After just a half inning, it seemed things might be different this time around.

The Shawano Community High School softball team crushed Clintonville in its previous meeting, winning in shutout fashion 15-0 on May 15. In the Truckers’ first at bat in Wednesday’s WIAA Division 2 regional at Shawano, they already were faring much better, taking a 1-0 lead.

However, a new day didn’t bring a different final result.

The Hawks responded with 14 unanswered runs and ended Clintonville’s season with a 14-1 win to advance and face Wittenberg-Birnamwood in a regional semifinal Thursday.

After allowing the game’s first run, Sydney Schreiber allowed only two hits for the remainder while the offense collected plenty of runs.

Samantha Huggins provided a leadoff single for Clintonville to start the game and scored one batter later when Savannah Harbath hit an RBI double. Schreiber got out of the inning without surrendering another run, and Shawano took the lead in the bottom of the first.

Allison Raddant and Courtney Ainsworth had back-to-back one-out singles for Shawano in its at bat, before Nicole Ainsworth reached on an error. All three eventually scored as Brianna Zook and Julia Beck provided RBI singles to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead heading into the second.

Shawano extended its lead to 4-1 in the second inning, when Julia Haarth had a leadoff single and scored on a Courtney Ainsworth single.

Coach Kevin Isaacson said the Hawks’ offense had somewhat of a slow start, despite having an early lead.

“We had to concentrate at the plate,” he said. “We had six popups in the first two innings and that’s not acceptable.”

Shawano concentrated a lot of runs in the third inning, which essentially brought an early end to the game. The Hawks brought 12 batters to the plate in the third and eight of them scored. Saige Henning, Raddant, Nicole Ainsworth, Zook, Beck, Wynes and Haarth all scored in the inning to give Shawano a 12-1 lead.

“When we focused and became disciplined, we started getting the hits,” Isaacson said.

Henning and Raddant scored fourth-inning runs for the Hawks, pushing their lead to 14-1 and forcing Clintonville to score at least four runs in its final at bat to prevent a mercy rule. Schreiber didn’t allow a Truckers’ rally and finished with one strikeout while issuing two walks in the game.

Raddant scored three runs and had two hits for Shawano; Zook, Nicole Ainsworth and Henning scored two runs each.

Megan Wittman pitched the loss for Clintonville.

Bonduel girls advance in softball tourney

Thu, 05/28/2015 - 6:37am

Leader Photo by Troy A. Bruzewski Bonduel High School sophomore Kailee Pedersen slides into second base during Bonduel’s win Wednesday over Crandon in a WIAA regional game.

The Bonduel High School softball team needed to endure just one inning of runs by Crandon on its way to a 16-4 win in Wednesday’s WIAA Division 3 regional at Shawano.

Lexi Reinke and Jen Dowden scored four runs each for the Bears, who scored in each of their four at-bats.

Cameri Gehm allowed only two hits and no walks to earn the win.

Bonduel opened with a three-run first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Reinke and Dowden had one-out hits and Kaylee Rynish drew a walk before consecutive hits by Taylor Weier, Dea Zernicke and Brittany Wudtke.

Crandon had its one productive at-bat in the second, scoring four runs. A walk and four hits led to a temporary 4-3 Crandon advantage before the Bears took the lead for good.

Althea Berry, Kailee Pedersen, Reinke and Dowden each scored a second-inning run for Bonduel, which regained the lead at 7-4.

While Gehm held Crandon scoreless for the remainder of the game, the Bears kept adding runs as they approached the 10-run threshold. They scored five runs in the third inning, boosting their lead to 12-4 heading into the fourth. Berry, Pedersen, Reinke, Dowden and Rynish scored runs in the third for Bonduel.

The Bears started at the top of the lineup for their fourth-inning at-bat, and four consecutive batters crossed the plate. Reinke, Dowden, Rynish and Weier each scored a run to give Bonduel a 16-4 win. Crandon was unable to score and extend the game, which ended before the Bears’ fifth-inning at bat.

Gehn finished with two strikeouts in the win.

Erin Homerton took the loss, allowing 18 hits and striking out none.

Reinke and Dowden finished with four hits each. Rynish had three hits and scored three runs for Bonduel, which advanced to face Menominee Indian on the road Thursday.

Hawks breeze by Denmark, 8-0

Soccer team earns lopsided tourney victoryBy:

Leader Photo by Troy A. Bruzewski Shawano Community High School junior forward Megan Klitzke sends a shot toward the Denmark goal on Thursday.

Playing the late game had a significant perk Tuesday.

With a 6:30 p.m. start time, rainy afternoon weather had ample time to flee the field and allow the Shawano Community High School girls soccer team to play host to Denmark in Bay Conference tournament play.

“We were watching the weather and everything said (the storm) would be gone by 6 p.m.,” Shawano coach Bob Croschere said. “We were glad to get this one in.”

The Hawks showed their appreciation of the mediocre weather that replaced the rain by thrashing Denmark 8-0. Junior forward Morgan Klitzke scored four goals for Shawano, including the game’s first score.

Klitzke scored just three minutes into the game to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead, then added a second goal at the 35-minute mark to push their lead to 2-0 before halftime. Megan Klitzke, who later scored a goal, finished with four assists for Shawano.

Carlie Hinnefeld made three first-half saves, and the offense began expanding the Hawks’ lead early in the second half.

Megan Klitzke scored her goal just seven minutes into the second half, giving the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Colleen McFarlane made it a 4-0 Shawano advantage with a goal five minutes later.

Morgan Klitzke added her third goal just three minutes after McFarlane’s score, making it a 5-0 game. She added her fourth goal at the 67-minute mark, four minutes after a Louisa Keenan goal, boosting the Hawks’ lead to 7-0.

In the final minutes, Nicole Horne scored Shawano’s final goal.

Madelyn Rabideau entered to relieve Hinnefeld as goalie in the second half and made two saves.

Croschere said being able to play on Tuesday, unlike many other teams due to weather, was a huge benefit for the Hawks.

“If this got rescheduled, we’d be playing (Wednesday) for a chance to play right away the next day,” he said. “This lets us prepare, get our legs back by having the day in between.”

Keenan also added an assist for the Hawks, who will host the next round of the conference tournament Thursday. They improved to 8-8-2 overall and 5-2-2 in the Bay Conference. Denmark fell to 5-10-2 overall, 1-6-1 in the Bay.

The Hawks are the No. 3 seed in the tourney.

Anvelink wins another Late Model feature

VanStraten gets 4th IMCA Stock Car winBy:

Scott Owen, Special to the Leader

Nick Anvelink passed Brett Swedberg on the final lap to win his second consecutive Late Model feature and third overall feature of the season.

Looking for his first feature finish of the season, Swedberg took the lead at the start of the feature. Rob Krull and Jeff Curtin chased Swedberg through the early stages of the race while Anvelink began working forward from his ninth-place starting position. Anvelink passed Curtin and Krull on lap nine to move to second behind Swedberg, who had put some distance between himself and Anvelink as the pair approached lapped traffic.

Anvelink showed the nose of his car to Swedberg on multiple occasions, but Swedberg was able to accelerate ahead of him.

Both drivers pushed their cars to the limit in the final turn with Swedberg actually brushing the wall as they entered the frontstretch. Anvelink found the room and was able to beat Swedberg to the line for the win. Ron Berna took third in the race.

IMCA Modified

Shawn Frelich led the opening lap of the IMCA Modified feature before Kevin Feck grabbed the lead on the second lap. Eddie Muenster quickly began to pressure Feck for the lead with Mark Weisnicht racing his way to third.

Caution slowed the field on lap six and the race struggled to get going again as multiple caution s plagued the restart. When the race went green again, Eddie Muenster was able to pass Feck to take the lead. Jason Cazarapata then moved to second on the track. The race was cut short due to time constraints with Muenster holding off a hard-charging Czarapata on the final lap for his first win of the year. Weisnicht finished third.

IMCA Stock Car

Gary Kasperek led the first two laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature before the yellow flag came out.

On the restart, Trent Nolan powered passed Kasperek for the lead while Mike Schmidt raced to second. Schmidt took the lead from Nolan on lap eight after Nolan slipped high in turn number two. Shawn Wagner followed Schmidt passed Nolan and began to pester Schmidt for the lead. A caution after lap nine bunched the field, and on the restart Brandon Czarapata snuck past Schmidt and Wagner to move into first.

Travis VanStraten took the lead on lap 13, passing both Czarapata and Wagner, eventually claiming the win. It was the fourth win of the year for VanStraten.

IMCA Sport Mod

The IMCA Sport Mod feature got off to a rough start as an incident at the start collected a number of cars. Once the track was cleared, rookie Kyle Raddant led the opening lap before Tracy Wassenberg snuck inside to take the lead. Wassenberg would hold the lead through lap six before being overtaken by Jason Jach on lap seven. Jach was able to fend off Wassenberg for the rest of the race on the way to his first win of the season. Wassenberg crossed the line in second ahead of Jordan Bartz.

Mighty Four

The Mighty Four drivers ran a clean caution free race to round out the night. Josh Slewinski led the first two laps before last week’s winner, Calvin Stueck, took over the point position. Stueck led for the duration of the race on his way to victory lane. Slewinski finished second. Lucas Hacker finished strong third.
