Michael Wayne Buettner
Michael “Mike” Buettner, a native and longtime resident of northern Wisconsin, lost his three-year courageous battle with ALS on March 20, 2015. He was born in Shawano on Sept. 27, 1960, son of Wayne and Sandra (Brunner) Buettner, of Gresham.
Michael graduated from Antigo High School in 1979. He earned his bachelor’s degree in fisheries biology and his master’s degree in natural resources from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. His professional career spanned 25 years in the fields of environmental chemistry and water resources. He had been the director of water utilities for the city of Appleton from 2003- 2010. He then relocated to Grand Prairie, Texas, to assume the position of assistant director of water utilities for the city of Arlington, Texas, where he served until his medical retirement in 2014.
Survivors include his beloved wife and devoted caregiver, Jackie (Kadlec); his parents, Wayne and Sandra Buettner; and his Texas family, including his daughter, Samantha Buettner; stepdaughters, Amanda (Melahd) Kohan and Samantha Kadlec; two grandchildren, Ayden Kohan and Kain Arenas; brother, David (Nina) Bittner; special niece, Ren, of Fairplay, Colorado; and his many lifelong friends from his childhood home in Antigo. He will be especially missed by his aunts, uncles and cousins, who live throughout the United States.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rolly and Barbara Brunner; paternal grandparents, Clifford and Selma Buettner; and uncle, Kurt Buettner.
Michael relished the Buettner passion for musky fishing. His favorite fishing spots were the area lakes in Boulder Junction and The Turtle Flambeau Flowage. And of course, he was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
A memorial Mass will be held April 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham.

George A. Warrington Sr., 67, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015, after a short illness, surrounded by his loving family.
George was born on Aug. 8, 1947, in Chicago to Kenneth and Lillian Warrington.
George is survived by his wife, Wanda; three children, Richard (Arienna), George Jr., Tara; and two grandchildren, Carolina Mangru and Brittany Kimlole Warrington. He is also survived by five sisters, Janice (Leonard) LaTender, Dianna Fish, Constance (Robert) Chevalier, Deborah Warrington, Cheryl (Al Martinez) Warrington; one brother, Kenneth Warrington Jr.; several nieces and nephews, Kristen, Robert, Anawaiwaiska, Michael, Beatrice, Antoine, Ryan, Amber, Dianna, Kayla, Lillian and Niko, and special nephew, Bobby Joe Sanapaw; several great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
George was raised on the Menominee Indian Reservation, Neopit, with his siblings. He entered the Marine Corps in May, 1965, where he served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War. After the Marine Corps, George attended Stout State University where he met his wife, Wanda. They were married on April 5, 1980, and resided in Wisconsin until 1989, when they moved to their home in Rockledge, Florida.
George primarily worked in law enforcement, which includes the following: Menominee Tribal Law Enforcement Center, Menominee Tribal EMT Service and the Rockledge Law Enforcement Center in Florida. George dedicated his final years to public service. He was an active member of VFW Post 4535 and enjoyed karaoke, poker and Bingo.
George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Robert “Issa” Fish Sr. and Warren “Eagle” Chevalier.

Carol K. Smith, 60, of Eau Claire, died on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire surrounded by her family after losing her battle with cancer. She was born on Feb. 21, 1955, to the late Carl R. and Mavis (Huth) Dey in Shawano.
After graduating from high school, Carol attended and received her degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She loved being with her family and grandkids, spending time at the cabin in winter and cheering on her beloved Packers — being the biggest (and loudest) armchair quarterback in the family. For many years, Carol worked in the operations department with Menards in Eau Claire. Carol’s friends referred to her as their “Florida Sunshine” due her warmth and love she shared with all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her husband, Michael, of Eau Claire; sons, Nathan (Shonnie), of Augusta, and Lucas Smith, of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Kalli, Braylee and Benjamin; sisters and brother, Carla (James) Seifert, of Shawano, Kurt (Kathleen) Dey, of Portage, Kathy (Gene) Braatz, of Shawano, and Kristi (Craig) Kandler, of Appleton; nieces and nephews, Jamie (Bob) Seifert-Meyer, Jody (Johnna) Seifert, Heith (Faith) Dey, Charlie (Dana) Dey, Kristen Braatz-Rades, Joshua Braatz and Collin Kandler; many other relatives and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Keith Dey, granddaughter, Brinkley, and her grandparents.
Funeral Service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2015, at Evergreen Funeral Home (off Golf Road one block east of state Highway 93 in Eau Claire) with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner at a later date.

Assist — Authorities assisted Marion police with a stolen vehicle on Main Street in Marion.

Dennis Wayne Hoffmann, 71, of the town of Belle Plaine, passed away peacefully, at home, with his loving family by his side on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis was born to the late Emil and Wilma (Sabrowksy) Hoffmann on Jan. 27, 1944, in New London. Dennis served in the Army Reserve for six years. On May 21, 1980, at the St. Martin Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine, Dennis was united in marriage to Vivien Lehman. The couple made their home in the Shawano area on Snuggle Valley Farm, and over the years, they made many wonderful memories with their children and grandchildren. Dennis was a retired dairy farmer and the constable of Belle Plaine the past 22 years. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed all sports. He was very involved in the St. Martin Church as a youth group leader and youth softball coach.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Vivien; four sons, Bennett (Jennifer), Brent (Anna), Brad (Jen) Hoffmann and Mark (Mary) Wittstock; two daughters, Christy (Steve) Wallace and Brandi (George) Lenzner; 13 grandchildren, Riley, Alex, Mariah, Brady, Adriana, Bill, Ryan, Kim, Olivia, Keley, Leah, Conley and Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Trenton, Nicko and Idella.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015, at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine with the Rev. Kurt Kluge officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Monday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 117.

Myrtle Marcella Schutt, 89, of Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015, in Green Bay. Myrtle was born in Cecil on July 6, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Lenora (Rueckert) Wilke. On July 2, 1941, in Shawano, Myrtle was united in marriage to Ervin A. Schutt. Ervin preceded her in death on Aug. 3, 1996. Together they lived in Shawano, where she worked at Martin Cleaners for 17 years. She lived in Milwaukee and has been a resident of Pulaski since 1982. Myrtle was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Pulaski. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and other arts and crafts.
Myrtle is survived by her daughter, Karen (Dennis “Skip”) Skalitzky, of Pulaski; two grandchildren, Denise (Ronald) Smurawa and Dennis “Buck” (Amy) Skalitzky; and two great-grandchildren, Jacklyn (Dustin) Adams and Michael Smurawa. She is further survived by two brothers, Harley Wilke, of South Milwaukee, and Gerald Wilke, of Oshkosh.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Ervin, their daughter, Sally, and one brother and six sisters.
A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015, at St John Lutheran Church in Pulaski with the Rev. Larry Yaw officiating with burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.

Doris Lorraine Hanke, 89, Wittenberg, died Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg under the care of Asera Care Hospice. She was born Sept. 18, 1925, in Wittenberg, the daughter of the late Guy and Emelia (Dahl) Jensen.
On October 30, 1943, she was united in marriage to Donald R. “Pete” Hanke in Wittenberg. He preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 2007.
Lorraine worked as a clerk at Hanke’s grocery store for many years. She enjoyed spending winters in Arizona and going camping on Post Lake in the summers. Lorraine also enjoyed fishing, going swimming with her friends, playing shuffleboard, bowling and shooting pool, but she especially loved the time spent with family and friends.
Survivors include four children, Donna Zeinert, Wittenberg, Doris (Ron) Matz, Wittenberg, Diane (Paul) Wopp, Wittenberg, and David (Marlus) Hanke, Schofield; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Jane Wendler, Wittenberg; and brother-in-law, Robert (Elaine) Hanke, Neenah.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by one son, Daryl Hanke; one sister, Mildred (Walter) Hegewald; and one brother, Allen (Irene) Jensen.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Michael Larson will officiate. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

The Rev. Victor N. Hillestad, 96, of Portage, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Tivoli, in Portage.
Victor Norman Hillestad was born on Feb. 10, 1919, on a farm in Lodi to Lawrence and Tillie (Feton) Hillestad, the older of twins and the fourth of nine boys. He graduated from North Central Bible College in 1938. On March 8, 1941, he married Elsie Hyllberg. Three children were born to their union, Norman, Karen and Sandra.
Victor was an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for more than 70 years.
He pastored three churches in Illinois, one in Michigan and five in Wisconsin. He also served as youth pastor in two churches in Wisconsin. In his semi-retirement, he served as visitation pastor for CrossPoint Assembly of God for 13 years, including prison ministry and conducting services at three assisted living homes in the Portage area until an illness necessitated his move to Tivoli. After a brief recovery period, he continued ministering at two of the assisted living homes until two weeks before his passing.
He is survived by his children, Norman (Pauline) Hillestad, of Georgia, and Sandra (Richard) Weishoff, of Portage; his son-in-law, Frank Liberato, of Florida; four grandchildren, Tami (Dale) Jahn and Tara (Chris) Huff, all of Florida, Stephanie (Todd) Christopher, of North Carolina, and Evan (Katie) Hillestad, of Georgia; his great-grandchildren, Lucy, Sadie, Kaitlyn, Kendall, Michael and Lauren; his brother, Don Hillestad, of Arizona; his sisters-in-law, Joyce Hillestad and Vivian Hillestad, both of Lodi; special niece and nephew, Betty and Harley Hansel; many other nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsie; his daughter, Karen Liberato; seven brothers and six sisters-in-law.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at CrossPoint Assembly of God in Portage, with the Rev. Randy Mantik officiating. Burial will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Spencer Lake Cemetery near Waupaca. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. at the Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage, and on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the church.

Lena Marie Gardner (nee Besaw) received her eternal reward on Saturday, March 14, 2015, after a brief illness. She was born in the town of Red Springs on Feb. 26, 1939, to the late Bernard and Ella (Bowman) Besaw.
Lena graduated from Bowler High School in 1957. On April 23, 1960, she married Ralph Gardner, of Bowler, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Morgan Siding. They resided in Milwaukee until 1978, when they returned to their home town. Lena worked various places throughout her adulthood, including Roller Fabrics, MasterLock and the Ella Besaw Center. She and Ralph enjoyed a social life with a love of dining out, shopping, country music and spending time with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always by each other’s side.
Lena was preceded in death by her two sons, Adrian (Kenny) and Brook John, eight brothers and several nephews.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Ralph; loving daughter and son-in-law, Karleen and Michael Gumm, of Plymouth; grandsons, Wayne Doxtator, Brandon (Laura) Gardner, all of Green Bay, Cody (Elise) Gumm, of Melbourne, Australia, and Devin Gumm, of Oshkosh; great-grandchildren, Precious, Nevaeh, Jada, Ethan and Adrian; as well as sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, March 16, from 4-7 p.m. at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Gresham. The funeral service was held Tuesday, March 17, at the Lutheran Church of the Wilderness on the Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation, Bowler, with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. and the funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Arthur G. Strelow Jr., 76, of Marion, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2015, at the Appleton Medical Center after a strong-willed fight with cancer.
Arthur Gerald Strelow Jr. was born at home in Gresham on Dec. 3, 1938, to Arthur and Eleanor (Reedy) Strelow Sr. He moved with his parents to a farm in the town of Pella, Shawano County, where he attended Willow Creek School. At the age of 11, Art moved to a farm in the town of Larrabee, Waupaca County, where he attended Excelsior School. He graduated in 1955 from Marion High School, where he played baseball for Coach Bartelt. Art’s best accomplishment in high school baseball was making the winning run in a big game against Clintonville.
After graduation, he worked for a short time in Appleton, then returned to Marion to work on the family dairy farm. He met his wife, Norine A. Knope, at dances at the Caroline Ballroom. They were united in marriage on Feb. 14, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Marion. The couple continued working on the family farm with their children. Art was currently semi-retired from farming, but his passion for helping his son on the farm always kept him going. He wasn’t one to sit around, so he started volunteer driving for Waupaca County Health and Human Services, which he enjoyed greatly. Art took up flower gardening in his later years, and his tulip garden was admired by many in the area.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norine; four children, Jamie (Raleigh) Moody, of San Diego, California, Keith (Annette) Strelow, of Marion, Tina (Jeffrey) Bonikowske, of Crivitz, and Dawn Strelow, of Crivitz; and four grandchildren, Brandon, of Marion, Blake, Tyler and Izin, of Crivitz. There are two sisters, Darlene Lohrentz, of Pella, and Lily (David) Lorge, of Clintonville. There is one brother, Gary (Yvonne) Strelow, of Clintonville. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Alice Knope, of Clintonville, and a brother-in-law, Bill (Kim) Knope, of Menasha. Art is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Mary; a son, Troy; a grandson, Cole; and his father-in-law, William Knope.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Deacon Thomas Jozwiak will officiate, and burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call on Thursday from 4 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.

John Charles Bastar, 70, of Shawano, died on Friday, March 13, 2015, in Appleton.
John was born on Oct. 14, 1944, in Shawano to the late Hilbert and Hattie (Melendy) Bastar. On Dec. 31, 1966, John married Peggy Ainsworth and together they raised five children. John had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved dogs and horses and enjoyed painting, sketching, wood-working, hunting and fishing. However, John’s true passion was his family, especially his grandkids. John was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shawano, the former owner and operator of the Ye Olde Print Shoppe, and a former member of the Shawano Jaycees.
John is survived by his loving wife, Peggy; five children, Jennifer (Paul) Parrott, Jayson (Amy) Bastar, Johanna (Jody) Schoen, Jessica (Matt) Knitter, Janalee (Jason) Krueger; 20 grandchildren, Robert, Katilynn, David, Pauline, Amanda, Stephanie, Elizabeth, Emilee, Jordon, Anna Marie, Mollie, Hattie, William, Johnathan, Aubrey, Aiden, Angellena, Lauren, Morgan and Max; three great-grandchildren, Jadyn, Myla and Haylee. John is further survived by two sisters, Mary Ellen (William) Wagner and Barbara (Greg) Babcock, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Theresa Joy.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the First Presbyterian Church in Shawano with the Rev. Susan Phillips officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.

Richard Przybylski, 84, a lifelong resident of Angelica, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer, while listening to his favorite polka music at the farm on which he was born. His wife and his sons were at his side.
Richard was very proud of his Polish heritage and the Pulaski area, and enjoyed Polka Days and Polish food. On Aug. 27, 1955, he married Phyllis Banaszynski at Assumption B.V.M. Church in Pulaski. The couple farmed in the town of Maple Grove, where they raised their two sons, David and Dennis. Phyllis preceded him in death on Sept. 23, 1976. Richard was always very proud of his sons and their families.
On June 16, 1979, he married Pat Linders, and the couple farmed together. After “retiring,” they enjoyed traveling, and put on many miles to enjoy the music of Chad Przybylski and his Polka Rhythm Band.
As a young man Richard was a good softball player and later enjoyed watching his granddaughter, Katie, play softball. He always watched the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Bucks and Brewers, Wisconsin Badgers, and all kinds of sports on TV.
Survivors include his wife, Pat; children, David (Bonnie) Przybylski, Suamico, and Dennis (Sheryl) Przybylski, Pulaski; eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Luke) Willette and Jason (Jayme) Przybylski, Kelly Przybylski (friend Damien) and Katie Przybylski, Josh (Beth) Przybylski, Ashley Przybylski (friend Andy), Alyssa (Brad) Rehn and Amanda Przybylski (friend David); three great-granddaughters, Ryan Rehn, and Aria and Mirabelle Przybylski; nieces and nephews; cousins; brothers-in-law, Slim Jaroszewski, Krakow, Jim (Barb) Banaszynski, Pulaski, Ed Banaszynski, Flintville; sisters-in-law, Barbara Blaser, Krakow, and Audrey (Fred) Delwiche, Green Bay; Pat’s family, Louise (Ray) Van Boxtel, Seymour, Evelyn Hug, Freedom, Mary Lou Puls, Milwaukee, and Bernard (Donna) Linders, Clermont, Florida.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis; his parents, Joe and Rose Przybylski; his sister, Delores Jaroszewski; and two brothers-in-law, Alvin Banaszynski and Bob Blaser.
Friends may call at Marnocha Funeral Home, Pulaski, from 3-7 p.m. Monday. There will be a wake service at 6:30 p.m. The visitation continues after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Assumption B.V.M. Church, 119 E. Pulaski St., Pulaski. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Patrick Gawrylewski, O.F.M., presiding. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to his neighbors; Eleanor Moesch and his other boys, as he always called them, Randy and Jerry Vomastic, for all the help they gave for many years; Kathy (like a daughter) and Gary Luebke, Jim and Barbara Banaszynski, and Chad and Laurie Przybylski and their families for their visits, phone calls and love. Marliss-ann Lundquist, 76, of Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.
Marliss was born to the late Curtis and Hilder (Grundsom) Hosking on Feb. 3, 1939. Marliss Hosking married Ned Lundquist on April 15, 1978, in West Allis. She was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church in Mountain.
Marliss is survived by her husband, Ned; three stepsons, Ned (Sharon) Lundquist, Brent (Connie) Lundquist and Steven Lundquist; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers.
A celebration of life will be held in spring at Tabor Lutheran Church in Mountain. The service date will be announced in spring.

Linda Joyce Porter, 67, of Green Bay, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2015, in Shawano.
Linda was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on March 21, 1947, to George and Joyce (Bird) Koons. She enjoyed the theater, reading, bicycling and loved music. Linda had an adventurous spirit and loved to try new and exciting things. She loved animals and was saddened by the death of her beloved pets, Luke, her black Lab, and Sofie, her cat.
Linda is survived by her parents, George and Joyce Koons, of Shawano, and her sister, Sheila Koons, of Wausaukee.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Church on the Hill in Shawano with the Rev. Allen Christensen officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the services. Inurnment will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Michael Stanley Brown, 71, passed peacefully in Chandler, Arizona, on March 3, 2015. He was born on Sept. 10, 1943, to loving parents Stanley and Joyce Brown in Shawano.
He was preceded by his parents.
He is succeeded by his loving wife, Claudia; brother, Dan; daughter, Michelle; son, Cevin; grandchildren, McKenna and Tyler.

Gail M. Miller, 63, of Clintonville, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2015, surrounded by her family at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah.
Gail Marie Miller was born April 26, 1951, to the late Albert and Mavis (Hull) Flessert in Shawano. After graduation from Shawano High School, Gail was married and worked hard raising her family. She worked as a nursing assistant at various care facilities in the area and also provided in-home care to some of her patients.
Gail was later married to Tom Miller on June 13, 1988, and together they resided in Clintonville. She enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and her family and liked to socialize with her friends. Gail loved animals and being outdoors, whether that meant fishing or deer hunting. She will be missed by her family.
Survivors include her husband of 26 years, Tom; daughter, Tammy (William) Chmielewski, Shawano; son, Leo (fiancee Lisa Bednarowski) Ashauer, Marion; grandchildren, Angel, Anakin and Brody Chmielewski, Jonathon, Brooklyn and Eli Ashauer, Kaiden and Ella Bednarowski; sister, Gloria (Tim) Krause; brothers, John (Bonnie) Stickney, Randy Flessert; stepdaughter, Kelly (Brad) Krueger; stepgrandchildren, Kittrick (Josh) Thoune, Krysta Krueger, David Chmielewski, Raven Chmielewski, Kayla Erickson; great-stepgrandson, Joseph Thoune; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a twin bother, Dale “Sammy” Flessert; a sister, Peggy Lang; and a granddaughter, Mackenzie Rose Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2015, at the Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville, with the Rev. Vilas Mazemke officiating.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until the time of the service.
