Kohler Arts Center reverses plans to move Fox Point 'Witch House'

Wed, 03/11/2015 - 4:57pm
FOX POINT -- Mary Nohl died more than a decade ago, but her house on Beach Drive continues to embody her creativity -- and spirit. Now, that spirit will remain at home in Fox Point. JSOnline today reports that the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, which acquired the home after Nohl's death in 2001, will not move the house as previously planned. Last year, Kohler executives announced it would dismantle the home, move it and rebuild it along the Sheboygan County shoreline. "Ultimately, we decided that we just couldn't make it accessible to enough people to enjoy and learn from it," Michael Cisler, a spokesman for the Arts Center, told TODAY'S TMJ4. Opening up the house to the public would've required zoning changes to the Fox Point property. Village ordinance prohibits parking in the area of Beach Drive, and neighbors had filed complaints about noise and litter. "We had proposed some limited access to the property," Cisler said back in March 2014. "Access only during certain hours of the day." The price of admission, however, apparently wasn't worth the price and risk of uprooting the Nohl house from its original home. A village spokesman tells TODAY'S TMJ4 the Arts Center has not reached out to the village, but the trustees look forward to hearing plans in the future.

Twenty-four other states already have right-to-work laws in place. Governor Scott Walker said he is confident the law will be upheld.
