Considering the number guns and amount of gun violence in our country, it’s time to require gun owners to carry insurance on each firearm they own.

I would like to respond to the guest column by Rep. Jeremy Thiesfeldt in Sunday’s paper, "School safety isn't just for students."

I listened to Madison Police Chief Mike Koval’s statement defending the use of force in the arrest of Genele Laird. He explained that state guidelines and training dictate the use of force in arresting an uncooperative individual.

A good, responsible leader recognizes and works for the benefit of his constituency, and does so with respect for the opposite side.
