A 13 year old boy from the Antigo area was airlifted to the Burn Center at UW Hospital in Madison on Wednesday afternoon.
The boy had been lighting ant hills on fire, using racing fuel and was burned on approximately 20 percent of his body. Much of the burns were on his back.
The accident occurred at the young man's residence in the Town of Peck.

The Boy is my Brother Nate Cook, he is in poor condition in the UW-Madison Burn Center ICU. He was burned on 53% of his body, on his back, arms, legs, face, head and neck, while ignorantly lighting a large ant hill on fire with Nitromethane gas. This has been an absolute nightmare for our family, especially Nathaniel. Anyone who has the audacity to talk negatively about this situation is ignorant. Period. Those that know my family and the truth/facts have shown overwhelming support and we are so thankful.
As I have sat with him, looking at my little brother in an unrecognisable state, telling me through swollen lips and face, crying through eyes swollen shut. In critical condition, hooked up to a dozen different leads, not sleeping because of the nightmares which play this horrific event over and over as he continues to fight for his life! I know the truth. And he deserves all the love and support he can get!!

Your asking a question that doesn't really have an answer. All I can say is, he's a 13 year old boy, sometimes they do stupid things. He obviously didn't realise the type of gas he was using was so explosive.

Although he knew it was for his brothers remote control car, he had NO idea of its attributes.
To him it was the same as the gas you put in lawn mowers or cars.
Bottom line: He should not have been burning an ant hill without permission and supervision. We've all made poor decisions...he is paying a price just short of death :(
He said today in his horse voice with tears streaming down his charred face "I wish I had a time machine"
So do we son...but we can't change what's happened, so we learn and press on.

For years now, I have been putting cinnamon on ant hills. They go away. It is dirt cheap at Good Will or Lakeside. Between that and cayenne pepper I get rid of pests safely non violently for pennies compared to the price of rocket fuel. The disturbing thing is weather this 13 year old had witnessed somebody doing such a cruel foolish act or if he came up with the idea himself. Is the motive of such a sadistic act the same as those crush videos? I am horrified that social services did not know of such cruel activities and order some treatment or counseling.

He is a 13yr old boy. They will do things that they are not suppose to, and they learn, I have a 11yr old brother who does some crazy things too. They are boys, they will do what something and hopefully learn from it.
But right now he needs all the prayers he and his family can get.

Not all 13 year old boys act like that. Just because others point out that this behavior is a bad sign, certainly does not mean they have no empathy or compassion. It would have been the ultimate price for his choices.
If he would have been crippled...again...I terrible price roost for his decision to disobey his parents.
GOD intervened and saved Nate from his choices.

This child has a history of doing life threatening stunts and if there was ever a reason for child protective services to be involved this is the case he has had these behaviors before

Like he did this on purpose to get seriously hurt.. and bring in the protective services, for???? You are so worried about the use of gas on ant hills, but not one word about using a riding mower home alone!!!!!!! Have any of you seen what happens to a person when a riding mower tips over???? Kids see us parents/grandparents do things daily... they have no idea of the danger and just follow what we do. Human behavior has a wide range . Every human acts as a human.The alcohol brain damaged worker/soldiers,the sanctimonious sociopaths, the narcissists posing as artists . Demand Intravenous Vitamin C treatment. ASAP. , every hospital has it, if they deny you, demand again. Vitamin C in high dosages has on record cured many dire life threatening situations. god forbid he gets worse, but if he does and you have not done your research and gotten him this effective, safe, and non toxic treatment, it will be just a shame. Google or youtube Megadose Vitamin C, also for vitamin c burn victims. Don't mess around, peace and much love.

hello my name is Nathaniel cook and i am the boy who got burnd and it actually was 54% of my body and i just got out of the hospital after over 2 months, two months of horrible pain and 3 surguys but here i am and it will be about 3 years before im fully healed.

It's ironic that the people who were apparently locked in cages in their basements as children and obviously never learned what being a kid is about are rambling about social services. If you deem burning an anthill as "sadistic" then I can't say for certaing that you are clinically sane and if anyone, YOU are the person that I don't want near my children or home. Oh, I also have a phd in software engineering and will shortly be removing the sociopathic and almost criminal comments on this post by my own means. Blessings to the family that had to endure such a terrible accident.

Many of the things Officer Just did were illegal too. Nothing was done about that? Granted they arrested the dumb cop that just couldn't help but text his penis to little girls. However I've heard many more disturbing things about Officer Just. Why was he allowed to transfer to be a cop somewhere else if he was doing illegal things here as a cop? I'll answer it for ya.
