A fire at Peeps Pawn Shop Wednesday afternoon — the second this week — may forever be a mystery.
It destroyed one of downtown Antigo’s historic buildings at Clermont Street and Fifth Avenue and brought out concerns that the flames might leap-frog to adjacent buildings in the 800 block of the city’s main street. Luckily, that did not occur.

Who owned both buildings?

Glad to see Peeps gone. How embarrassing. Like some ghetto poverty nightmare. Some greedy nasty ''cousin" of cops who gives citizens pennies for their property but charges retail. Another humiliation for Antigo...gone! Hope they take their tricks to some other town. Good riddance. The place was nasty smelly and a blight on the town.

Cousin of cops??? Tricks?? This place was doing a service to people who chose to take loans against or sell their own property... No "tricks" involved... And it was not sold at retail prices, rather prices were negotiable... but whatever the price, people chose to buy things if they wanted to, also no tricks involved... Do you have a clue what a pawn shop is???

Peeps was a front and often sold stolen property. A lot of crime and vile people frequented peeps. Shut that filth down.

Peeps was predatory .Hope they don't start up again in this town. On the positive side , at least we knew where the trash was. Poverty exploiters.Pass the marshmallows please. It is inaccurate to think that unfortunately remodeled chopped bastardized building had historic significance.

Snitches. Opportunists preying on the poor and desperate. I too hope they move from town.

I love how one minute Antigo is all Anti bullying and the next they are bullying a family and business on a public forum....
Children learn what they live.... where do you think any child learns how to bully....
you should all be ashamed of yourselves.

I am so glad you people are all so caring. MY son happened to have rented a room above Peeps. He lost his belongings and his home. I'm not afraid to show my name, nor am I afraid to confront any one of you that would say a bad word about my son and where he lived. I have only one condition, come say it to my face.

Sorry to hear that about your son. I don't think scare tactics are going to change the direction of how some people voice themselves. We all know any fire is tragic for everyone- The business might have had a bad reputation but no one said your son did. Bless all the people involved in this fire and Thankfully all the people survived.

Don't delude yourself. Being stupid enough to post your real name should not be confused with being afraid to post your name. This is a site where one can post anonymously. Peeps may have been an embarrassment but at least they had a store front downtown. Antigo has become, actually ,an ugly strip mall looking place with poverty stricken decaying downtown. The fire seems a blessing. That place was nasty.
