'Pajama Game,' AHS musical, opens tonight

Antigo High School’s production of “The Pajama Game” is the musical version of a slumber party pillow fight. The romp through the offices and shop floor of The Sleep-Tite Pajama Company is a light-hearted venue to showcase the talents of student musicians, singers, dancers and actors. So disappointed to read the inferior writing again in the ADJ. In all my years of reading about the musicals, only once was the coverage adequate. The same mistakes again."The show stars.."... Who is so ignorant as to write these amateur reviews using the offensive ignorant words: "starring." Theatre can be more than just the power trip egomania of pathetically untalented people. Please get a decent writer to cover these events. State the players of the roles but please leave out the foolish words like starring. It makes for lack of credibility for anything the ADJ publishes. Something to be embarrassed about rather than proud of.Please just print the names without calling some kids stars. It is really ignorant and offensive. I refuse to even go see a production that is written up like this.WISE UP! Our schools and teachers and newspaper writers are embarrassing us. Calling some kids stars is just wrong. I have a lifelong relationship to theatre art writing and teaching . Whoever writes these ADJ articles about the plays is doing an embarrassingly bad job.

Maybe you should get all your facts straight and actually experience all the hard work that we do. We deserve just as much publicity as athletic events especially considering our moment to shine is two weeks not all year. This is coming from someone who is involved in both spirts an arts. I even question if you went to go see the show. Our record officially beat out "Guys and Dolls" but was behind "Beauty and the Beast" considering it was also a kid directed audience. This fact is surprising considering we lost a large amount of seniors and we continued to pull strong. The artical was beneficial and was true to our performance. Everyone who attended praised our talents. You should probably go out and see more theater arts than complaining about our works....

If you can't see the problem with calling some kids stars and others not, then I hope when you are an adult you learn to be more sensitive than you are as a child. The issue is with the ADJ articles over the past several years. The writer of the news about the children's musicals has been outrageously offensive. Never use words like star or starring in a children's school play. Maybe when you grow up you will understand.

@AHS musical lead. You state:"Maybe you should get all your facts straight.."... Please, what does this mean? The fact is, who ever had been writing the ADJ reviews of theatre here in Antigo ,had been disgusting me with their lack of tact ,taste ,and intelligence. The writing has been embarrassingly bad .I am so turned off by the calling of certain kids stars. Using factual words, like lead ,or just stating the name and role ,would be so much more wise than star or starring. If you don't get it now, believe me, when you become an adult with children ,you will. Also, what complaining did I do of your ''works?" I did not complain. I stated the facts. I am so turned off by mistake of the writing about the amateur children's school shows that I am not going anymore till the writers get wised up. It is wrong to label your kid a star and not mine. Just state the names and roles. The writing ( starring) is not just ignorant but potentially damaging.

The point is that we work hard to come off of the spot. I was chorus starting out just like everyone else. I know the others with hard work and determination will get there as well. They still are recognized in the article! I assure you that I am no "child", for I can seek past small indifferences such exemplified in this arguement. Please don't allow some article to be your deciding factor for viewing the play, it's not "Time" magazine for gosh sakes! It's simply a local newspaper. Maybe instead of complaining you can go and raise the issue to the newspaper instead of hiding behind a computer like a "child".

Don't argue with developing narcissistic personalities. A high school student does not have a fully developed personality let alone brain. I find the real problem with these amateur student quality at best productions, the fact that the newspaper creates a delusional overestimation of the children's talent. The poor kids get to college and find out they are not prepared for the classics and can not get into any of the best theatre schools. Performing Arts scholarship to someone who has very little chance to ever make a living as an actor. Getting out into the big real world they find out that they were deluded and are far from star quality. It is the duty of someone gifted and talented with training and experience in the arts to be honest to kids. Having good self esteem is great but an inaccurate grossly inflated narcissistic view of their talent is unhealthy. A slightly narcissistic attitude is normal for adolescence. Please be aware though, that in the real big world ,where your mom does not cast you in the show and write the lies about you in the news, that professional performing arts and music business are nasty cutthroat industries loaded with detestable prostitute and pimp like people. Have fun feeling powerful and appreciated in your school or community play but don't be delusional and expect to be cast or accepted to Julliard or Yale based on your schooling and experience here in Antigo.
