An Antigo man was in his yard taking shots at the icicles hanging from his roof with a BB gun Wednesday afternoon, which probably isn’t a great idea.
Even worse these days is being in your yard with any kind of gun, BB or not.
Reports of shots being fired brought a 12:50 p.m. call to the police and eight heavily armed officers from that department, sheriff’s personnel and an officer from the Wisconsin State Patrol converged to the area of a home on Fifth Avenue just west of Langlade Hospital.

“What if he had pointed the BB gun at one of our officers? Roller asked. " These morons should all lose their jobs so we can get some adequately intelligent officers I hope. They have embarrassed us again. Too much TV and low IQ. We can do better!

Shots being fired ? How ignorant ! Fireams fire shots. A BB gun is not a firearm. These inept corrupt clowns are humiliating us. Whoever called this one in should be punished. The
entire department needs replacing.

Falling icicles or imbecile police force?

You people really think it was mishandled?? Really?? Get a freaking clue. How are you suggesting the Police should have handled it? I believe there is a mentally handicapped adult next door too, not sure if he called it in but none the less, I don't see how you think it was mishandled by the police. Should they have taken it lightly? Obviously not know what type of gun it was at the time. @Ignorant Clowns, it is illegal to shoot a BB gun in the city.

If a mentally deficient citizen's word is all it takes to make these TV wanna be power seeking fools react like this , yes ,it was mishandled. Police toads come out of the woodwork to defend such laughable clowns. The chiefs own quote is what is foolish. If the individual had actually pointed the gun at anybody especially a vet with PTSD, or a citizen who has been the victim of such fool hardy police debacles, yes, then there could have been a situation. The chiefs statement is an embarrassment to those of above average sensibilities. They are to protect and serve the people and the response and punishment need to fit the crime. Only a cop toad with an IQ and experience equaling theirs would not think this is a foolish waste of taxpayer money. The chief should have said something more intelligent. Most cops never even pull their gun from the holster in their entire career. If the individual had threatened someone ,I could see the powerful important me police response opportunity. Unless you are a cop groupie, this is an embarrassment. Cops should be of above average sensibilities not below.

As someone who has been a member of an armed force and has been held at gunpoint more than once in some life and death situations, I feel that the inexperience and ignorant power seeking of the police is quite obvious. I myself have been terribly upset by a couple kids pointing toy guns at me for the feeling of power it gave them. I did not call out the national guard though. I did not call the police but talked to the children's guardian about how this is a bad thing. How if this happened to a cop who likely does not have the experience or intelligence I have that tragedy could erupt.I actually had what looked to be a real handgun pointed right at me. Lets talk about the chief's comment. How insulting to the people. "What if..." Here is some half wit who thinks of himself and his thugs as somehow superior to the citizens. Thank God no crime was actually committed or thankfully nobody got the BB gun pointed at them , would be an appropriate response. Since the cops around here have never pulled their guns from their holsters and have nothing to do but sadistically bust the poorest of the poor for having prohibited medicine ,which cuts into the corrupt greedy profits of the real criminals, the comic antics of the clowns seem all the more unfitting of an officer. Anyone of above average sensibilities can see the awful shame of this foolish mistake of police work.In the future the qualifications for police officer should be upgraded to prevent such foolishness. Cop toads and groupies, an ignorant blind defense of the half wits is expected.

..."eight heavily armed officers from that department, sheriff’s personnel and an officer from the Wisconsin State Patrol converged to the area of a home "... Wow states that is illegal to shoot a BB gun in Antigo City limits. I suggest that if our tax payer dollars are spent on sending 8 heavily armed power hungry losers to something so trivial, somebody should lose their job. To defend it by saying shooting a BB gun is illegal is bordering on "mentally disabled." B y all means, take this one to trial and have a jury. Admit you made a mistake and forget it. It's a losing argument anyway you look at it. Veterans of deadly operations fire BB guns in this city everyday at rabbits squirrels and cans, as do countless children. The key here is having personnel intelligent and experienced enough to recognize a threat. Tremendous fail by a department already discredited and humiliated in recent years. Time to replace them all.

The chief should step down and let a qualified person take over. Antigo has been humiliated by it's embarrassing police department and cover ups for too many years. More than one officer has left the force because of this fact . People of intelligence and integrity just could not stay associated with them. Just the facts ma'am.

Most of us know what kind of personality longs to be a cop. Look what has happened to so many ,especially around here. Sex offenders, child molesters pedophiles drug dealers thieves etc... The record speaks for itself. Intelligent qualified folks are just not interested in being associated with such outrageous corruption and ineptitude. Bottom of the barrel is all we have and all we are gonna get!

BB guns are played with safely everyday, by countless people across the country. People of average sensibility are capable of recognizing this. To say these 8 heavily armed kooks are doing a good job is absurd. Antigo needs to take steps to stop being the laughing stock of law enforcement. The corrupt war on drugs has destroyed decent law enforcement around the country. The mayor and all the rest need to be voted out next election. Enough of this! Use your vote! We have sociopaths chosen for their cruel stupid willingness to abuse good decent citizens using "prohibited" plants that are not only harmless but beneficial. The mentality of the officers is shameful.
Martial Arts replied on
What separates the wannabes from the qualified is just this key issue. Recognizing what is a threat and what is not. Our officers here have failed. Knowing when and when not to respond is the key. I realize they are stigmatized by the shameful reputation the force here has, but ,this is unacceptable. Barney Fife special response team here we come.

@Wow, do you suggest we send Barney Fife and The Antigo Special Response Team to all reports of citizen possessing BB gun in the city limits? Let your votes talk next election.

I think the Antigo Police did what they were supposed to. If they hadn't acted as they did, they would be criticized for that. Better safe than sorry...
Otis is drunk again replied on
@ Tee. That is the point! Police force should not be making decisions based on being criticized. Bad instinct. Poor decision making . If you will recall, Barney Fife was not allowed to carry a loaded gun and had just one bullet in his pocket.

I heard the initial communication from dispatch on the scanner, and it sounded serious, AS REPORTED BY THE NEIGHBOR. No one knew it was a frickin BB Gun until the guy came out of the house and law enforcement talked to him. If you would have heard how dispatch translated it to the police on the scanner you may have a more realistic approach than nagging at what the police did. What if it was a RIFLE (hi powered), and they took the approach you "PRO COP KNOW IT ALLS" think they should have? Had they known it was a damn BB gun they obviously would have handled it differently. Hindsight is supposed to be 20/20 but you guys may be blind to that fact. Maybe you should be coaching citizens how to accurately call in complaints. You're all wanna be cops.
Toad with scanner replied on
Get a new dispatcher. One with an IQ over 90. Wanna be cop? Far from it! My IQ is too high. Never been interested. This neighbor that reported it? Their intelligence rivals the cops.

With so many police misconduct cases costing communities millions , Antigo should get better personnel , so we don't go bankrupt. Luckily ,our history of badness ,although widely known, has not broken our bank yet. Start from scratch. Clean house before it costs us big time. Most people have no idea what has been covered up.
