Sports briefs Friday
Longtime state sports reporter Tom Mulhern died Friday at age 56 after a battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. Mulhern was best known for his coverage of the University of Wisconsin football team while he was with the State Journal. Mulhern, a Madison native, was named Sportswriter of the Year in Wisconsin in 2005 and 2010.
