Blood donors thanked as national project is big success | Solihull Observer

People who donate will initially receive a "thank you" text when they give blood and then get another message when their blood makes it into somebody else’s veins.

The Missing Type campaign for National Blood Week 2015 drove a total of 577 people in Berkshire, of which 128 were in Reading, to register.

The NHS Blood and Transplant's campaign saw thousands of people across the country sign up - with 388 in Dorset registering.

Seventeen-year-old Hannah Russell donated blood with her father Michael Russell last time the van was in town.

Organisations and companies across the country changed social media profiles using the hashtag #Missingtype to encourage people to sign up as new donors.

NHS BLOOD and Transplant service has praised the public for an ‘overwhelming’ response to its donor recruitment drive.

The Swedish blood donor service hope that the feedback will give donors more of a tangible idea of how their blood is helping people, encouraging them to keep donating in future.

More than 30,000 people registered as donors - 20,000 more during this year’s National Blood Week campaign compared to last year. If there aren’t any immediate appointments in the area in the next few weeks - do not worry, book an appointment for the future. By ensuring that blood banks are always stocked with all sorts of blood types, hospitals will be able to save the lives of patients who desperately need a blood transfusion.

"While we have captured the nation’s imagination with ‘Missing Type’ the job is far from done".
