First of all there was the death count, with shocks coming from not just who perished, but how - Most notably the deaths of main contenders for the Game of Thrones Jon Snow and Stannis Baratheon, and the horrific burning at the stake of poor tiny princess Shireen.
Betrayed, Caesar-style, by his fellow Crows, the young Lord Commander appeared to take his final breaths as he lay bleeding in the snow.
Jon Snow fans just don't want to let go.
The show's creators and actors themselves are doing their best to dispel this hope.
In an interview with Variety, he said, "I can say emphatically that Jon Snow is definitely dead".
"Like every season, you read something in the script and go, ‘Oh [expletive].’ I kind of knew it was coming".
The episode altogether left me feeling dead on the inside, but hopeful.
He previously said: "I do not want the bother of it all really".

In the meantime, we're going to reminisce on all the blood and violence from "Mother's Mercy". He held on to his dignity even when his father’s wife cursed him.
You saw it yourself: Jon’s eyes change. Jon Snow won't stay dead for long. We have so many new questions, we don't know if we can wait until next April.
He added: "They have clubs and they have get-togethers". Is he really dead and done?
"Quite honestly, I've never been told the future of things in the show, but this one time I have".

We were reintroduced to the minor character of Beric Dondarrion in Season Three when Arya and Gendry stumbled across the renegade group the Brotherhood without Banners. Aria has had dreams of Nymeria, her dire wolf from book 1 and season 1 that she sent off to the wilderness to save from being put down. But instead of dying, Dondarrion is healed by Thoros of Myr, a red priest who worships the Lord of Light, or the "fire god". But because of it, Jaqen H’gar killed himself, or Arya?
One fan in Brooklyn, New York, has even started a vigil on the street in memoriam of Snow. I don't believe Jon Snow is dead because the single most important message that this story has repeatedly smacked us around the head with is this: actions have consequences.
‘Jon had taken him under his wing and mentored the boy, but he forgets that this boy’s family has been murdered by wildlings.
Unfortunately, it is not likely that Jon will be resurrected in the television show. Reddit has been hopping all week with theories. He cannot be dead, he just cannot be! We’ll see who’s right when season six premieres next year. Obviously, it’s impossible to predict what may happen as the story veers away from the books, but that’s why we call ourselves experts.
