Connecticut Shooting - more mental illness being neglected?

After hearing of the absolutely horrific events in Connecticut today, it has me wondering if this isn't another example of mental illness either not being treated, or under-treated.

How many of these types of things are going to happen before a REAL awareness occurs in the world of mental illness in this country?

I know that medications do wonders for people, but, obviously others are not being treated correctly and with or without warning signs they are causing these tragedies in schools, malls, theaters, etc.

I believe that anyone who can kill innocent people, let alone children, are seriously mental ill and are lacking help. I also think that most of them gave warning signs before acting out in violence.

What can we do, as a society, to help with this type of situation? I guess my only suggestion is to be aware of others, watch for any warning signs and get people the help they need!

On a positive note, I have to say that such a tragedy as this really does bring out the good in people. I saw a huge number of posts all over the internet for people praying for these families who lost loved ones and friends. I saw many people crying, which to me is a sign of our spirits and good-heartedness towards others. It is just unimaginable to lose a child that way, any loved one and my heart breaks for them.

I totally agree with the mental health issue being a huge problem in this country! Maybe in light of this horrible event in Connecticut, something will change for the BETTER!

I have seen a lot of stuff on the internet lately on mental illness, so it's good that others are also recognizing this.

It doesn't do very much for people to just be aware of the lacking mental illness issues that people have if something is not being done about it. Do I know what to do??? No I don't I'm one of those that has been trying to get help.
