Same sex marriage debate

Since a Federal Judge overturned the ban on same sex marriage in Wisconsin, there has been a flooding of news stories on the topic. I am unfamiliar with the legal process of this issue, but, it seems as though fear is the basis of the unapproving.

Why do I think that way, well, what else could be the problem? What drives us to prohibit things, fear. We know that gay marriage will not harm anyone or pose a health risk of some kind, so fear is all that is left. Perhaps the fear is that the Bible is wrong or that we, as people, are not only here for the purpose of procreation. Maybe the fear is that what we see as "normal" is not normal at all. Maybe "normal" is just some ideology that makes us feel good about being accepted by others.

When you really get down to the reason for prohibiting same-sex marriage, it falls into religion and we are supposed to have the right to believe in any religion we choose or none at all. The Bible says a man should not lay with another, but, what if I don't believe in the Bible, I should not be forced to abide by it. So, since we should not be basing laws on religious beliefs, there is no reason for prohibiting gay marriage.

I think it would be strange and probably somewhat uncomfortable for me, personally, to see gay or lesbian couples openly kissing and being affectionate, but I know that those feelings would change as time went on. Like many in society, I was taught that gayness is "wrong", but I believe that questioning the rules and opening your eyes to new perspectives can be life changing. Just because something makes YOU uncomfortable, doesn't mean that it is wrong.

I believe that every person has the right to be happy and if they choose to marry another of the same sex, let them. No one is forcing you to do it.

Same sex marriage should be allowed, why should someone be punished for loving someone of the same sex, it's 2014 not 1950.
